Just a quick story, I once worked for a baker who has an art background, and even though she didn’t go into art full time after school, she uses her design skill to create masterpieces with her cake decoration, making her cake stand out amongst others.
Now I’m not saying you should start baking but whatever artistic skill you have you can turn into a great business idea and use it to earn a good living.
I curated seven business ideas that I’ll share with you, of course, they are not limited to that but you can learn something from them.
1. Calligraphy
This is beautiful artistic writing that can be used to design cards, wedding invitations, thank you cards, birthday messages, and so on.
You might have heard of Esty, an e-commerce company that allows you to sell your artwork or you haven’t even explored that option yet. But there are several other ways your beautiful writing skill can generate income.
You can sell handmade greeting cards, apart from selling them to your friends you can also take good pictures of them and post them on your social media handles.
All you will need is card stock and paper, different colored brushes, and pen and ink bottles.
Another option is writing good inspirational quotes which people love these days. I mean we all need the inspiration to get back on when life knocks us down. If you can design good quotes with your handwriting, put them in a frame and showcase them to as many people as possible, you will start earning from it in no time.
2. Work As A Graphic Artist
Graphic designs are in demand because businesses, religious organizations, corporate organizations, and even personal brands understand the importance of good designs for their media messages.
If you are good at creating designs, especially unique ones with good taste in color or form. Then you can start making design templates and put them up for sale.
Designing T-shirts or other items like mugs, and shopping tote bags is also making waves. You can create designs for merch with quality and unique designs that will attract a particular audience.
3. Art Consultant
This can also be called a visual storyteller. You will help your client to make meaningful decisions in collating art pieces that will represent their values and also create the image they have in mind if you have good taste or know how to identify beautiful art pieces. Then you should consider this option because art pieces are always in demand.
You can collaborate with hotels, hospitals, private collectors, and museums to help them make the right choices for their artworks used for decoration.
4. Art Director
This requires you to lead a team of artists to bring to reality the concept of the organization. They decide the artistic element to use and express the vision better. You will be the one to review every copy, design for photography, and how to combine the various artistic skills to achieve the set goal or the picture your client has in mind.
If you have several creative interests this will help you to channel or harness them to satisfy your client.
You don’t need to start with giant companies, one client here, one client there will add up eventually.
5. Photography
Photography in this age has gone beyond the normal taking of still images. Photographers make use of creativity more to stand out and take photos that appeal to their clients.
In this social media world, we all live in, creative photos get all the attention and there are various niches like travel, food, fashion, stock photos, and wedding photos just to mention but a few. All you need is to find the one that suits or matches your interest.
Photography skill continues to be in demand and being creative with the skill can give you an edge over others.
6. Collect and Sell Art
If you have the skill of identifying or separating good works of art from multiple pieces already in existence or you have a good eye for artwork. Then you should consider this business.
And not only separating them but being able to collate them and improve the understanding of the artwork and stimulate the interest of your audience. You will also have to maximize the quality and value of the art for your client or audience to appreciate the artwork and eventually buy it.
You can personalize it to help you stand out from other collectors that may be collecting the same kind of artwork. Bringing in your taste and values, that you will be known for.
7. Sell your handmade craft
Art craft is always unique and valuable because of the efforts and how expressive it is.
If you can make good handcrafts you should consider this business and start making them. You can personalize them to suit your client's taste and give them a sense of uniqueness and it was made just for them.
There are various examples like basket weavers, coloring book artists, tech accessory makers, caricature artists, handmade gifts, and so on.
You can start small with any of these ventures and it will not be rosy but with consistency and effort, your good work will begin to get recognition and earn you a good living.
